10 ESSENTIAL ACCESSORIES THAT YOU SHOULD CARRY IN YOUR PHOTOGRAPHIC BACKPACK

Discover how to choose the ideal backpack for your camera in the purchase guide that we have prepared for you.

Do you know what are the essential photographic accessories that you should carry in your backpack ? Few things are as important as organization and anticipation when planning a photographic outing, be it near or far, whether it lasts one morning or several days. When preparing a photographic excursion, there are at least 10 accessories that should always accompany you, to which, of course, depending on your style, the place you go to and the type of photographs you plan to take, you can expand with others of your own harvest.

1. SUNSHADE

A classic that does not take up any space in your backpack , that is not heavy, and that will be your best ally to prevent unwanted lights such as flares or reflections from slipping through your lens, destroying your image. Trust me, you will only miss it when you forget it at home, so keep it attached to your equipment for the photo tour.

2. EXTRA BATTERY

Is there anything worse than running out of battery in the middle of nowhere, with no plugs, no photo shops or street vendors willing to get you one of exactly your make and model? Are you going to risk this happening to you and stay all day looking at that wonderful landscape and thinking that maybe you lost the only opportunity you had to photograph it? Are you going to miss that wonderful moment just because you didn't buy an extra battery or two? ?

What a drama, right? So don't forget to take some extra battery and make sure you have it well charged for a while before leaving home.

3. MEMORY CARDS

We are exposed to a case very similar to the previous one. Will you risk running out of space on your memory card in the middle of a photo shoot of any kind? Memory cards are not excessively expensive and also take up the minimum anywhere, so you should not save yourself from taking a few extras. Of course, do not forget that being organized is very important, and losing one means irretrievably losing all your photos.

Likewise, it is more advisable to have several smaller ones than a single one with a lot of capacity, since, in the unfortunate event that one of them breaks down and you cannot recover the information , you will "only" lose a part of the images.

Make sure you take enough memory cards with you

4. MINI TRIPOD

If you are going to do landscape photography, you will probably take a robust tripod of excellent quality, so it is possible that a mini tripod will not get much juice out of it. But in general, a mini tripod in the backpack is a great companion. It can save you on many unexpected occasions, and like everything, there are multiple prices and qualities, depending on the use you can put to it, it is worth investing a little more or less in acquiring one.

5. CLEANING KIT

Indispensable in any photographic backpack and very cheap. No more cleaning the lens with the steam from your breath and the t-shirt, please ? There are some miraculous dust-stain-remover wipes that will do it better than your home remedy, and will also take care of your optics. The most basic are usually made up of:

  • Air blower with brush : Very useful to remove dust from the corners of SLR cameras: viewfinder, buttons and other joints.
  • Microfiber cloth and/or cleaning paper : Traps dust adhering to surfaces such as glass or mirrors and can remove small stains such as dry drops of water, etc. that we have on the lens.
  • Cleaning fluid

Don't forget to make cleaning your SLR a regular thing. This will prevent dust from accumulating and causing more "irreversible" damage. Of course, make sure to do it in a suitable place (that is less dirty than your camera ? ) and with peace of mind.

Cleaning your SLR is not as complicated as it seems and it will seem even less so after reading this wonderful article.

Cleaning your equipment should be part of your routine

6. RAIN COVER

Although at the first drop of rain, our first impulse is to run to safeguard ourselves and our equipment, the truth is that the photographs on cloudy or rainy days are wonderful. And you are one plastic rain cover away from being able to do them or not. Or failing that, you are one plastic bag away from being able to do them or not ?

And even if you don't like these images, imagine that an unexpected spring shower catches you in the middle of some place where you can't take cover... It's always a great idea to take extra protection for your camera, and even more so if the way to do it is so simple, cheap and efficient, like carrying a waterproof cover.

7. SELF-TIMER

This is also a great classic of photographic backpacks, and of our team. You can use the shutter release on multiple occasions: Self-portraits, group photos where for once you want to be able to leave without having to run towards the photo and always appear with a terrified or stressed face, landscape photography where you want to avoid the trepidations caused by squeezing the shutter, long exposure photography, etc. It is also very cheap and takes up little space, what more can you ask for? ?

8. CHARGER

It is always a good idea to carry the charger with you to recharge the batteries whenever you can. For example, when you stop to recharge your own in some "civilized" place, that is, with plugs, they usually have no problem letting you plug in the battery for a while while you have a snack, a drink or whatever you need to recharge the batteries. .

9. FILTERS

At the very least I hope you take UV into account to protect your lenses (unless you're a fan of sharpness, in which case you'll need to be very, very responsible with your gear). But there are a couple more that at any given time I think you'd love to have on hand (at least it's my case ? )

  • UV filter to protect the lens unless you are looking for sharpness above all else. Its use is "to taste" but at least you have to know what it is used for in general.
  • Polarizing filter to eliminate reflections and increase saturation and contrast of colors.
  • ND (Neutral Density) filter to reduce existing light and be able to shoot at low speeds. It will be useful when you want to capture the movement of a specific scene, such as getting pictures of water with a silky effect.
Do not underestimate the effects that you can achieve with a good filter ?

 10. PAPER AND PENCIL

I know that you carry your Smartphone, that your notes are automatically uploaded to your computer when synchronizing at home and that this way you don't lose anything, that if you meet someone and want to sign up their phone number or email, you open a contact, etc. But paper and pencil never run out of battery , so it doesn't hurt to carry it with you, you never know what you're going to need to aim for and in what circumstances.

And so far we have come with the 10 essential accessories that you should carry in your photographic backpack. Although we could expand it to a couple or three more. The camera, the lens and yourself, although I assume that you won't forget these three ?

And you know, if you liked it, found it useful, and you think someone else might be interested in reading it, feel free to share it on your favorite social network, and as always, thanks for reading ?
