CANON 650D: ADVANTAGES, DISADVANTAGES AND PHOTO SAMPLES

This camera is currently discontinued, but we have the ideal alternative for you. This is the Canon 800D . A camera with better features and very similar in price that will not disappoint you. The Canon 650D is a recurring request among my readers regarding SLR cameras. It seems unbelievable that until now there is no review dedicated to this camera in the Photographer's Blog. I'm doing this, partly because I like to let some time pass after a camera is launched before testing it and sharing my comments and ratings on it. Today, finally, it is the turn of the Canon 650D to have its 5 minutes of glory. In this article we will analyze the ideal type of user who would be interested in buying this camera, the most outstanding features of this machine as well as its small drawbacks, which also has them.

WHO IS THE CANON 650D AIMED AT?

As I have always defended, there is no best camera in the world. What exists is an ideal camera for each of us. The Canon 650D is an ideal camera for:
  • Beginner Photographers
  • Owners of Canon analog SLR cameras that want to switch to a current DSLR
  • Photography students
And, of course, anyone who wants to invest in a current SLR without spending a fortune.

HIGHLIGHTS OF THE CANON 650D

It is not so difficult that very advanced SLR cameras outperform the Canon 650D in features and features . It is not a revolutionary camera. However, it is a model that constitutes a correct quality / price ratio. For the price range to which it belongs (over € 600) the Canon 650D has many advantages for the amateur photographer, whatever the level. I will not mention the detail of all its configuration, but its most outstanding features:
    • It is the first Canon SLR with autofocus during video recording. In any case, its autofocus system is considerably fast both in photo and video.
    • Rotating screen, allowing normally complicated shooting angles. The screen is also tactile, something that I personally do not find especially useful, but allows you to focus by pressing directly on the screen with your finger on the place where you want to focus. Those of us who like the viewfinder do not usually appreciate these details
    • Built-in focus motor In Nikon cameras to have autofocus lenses you need to spend money on relatively expensive lenses or have a veneer camera that has a focus motor. One of the indisputable advantages of Canon SLR cameras, as is the case with the 650D, is that all its current lenses are equipped with an integrated focus motor. Result: possibility of autofocus with any current canon objective. In short, this allows access to very cheap lenses in the long run.
    • High ISO The Canon 650D offers ISO levels of up to 12,800 in standard mode, and can reach up to 25,600 forced. This helps to get sharper and less blurry photos.
  • Full HD Video Recording , with external microphone connection, stereo recording, etc.
As I said, they are just some of its features, the most prominent. However, the Canon 650D does not envy its counterparts of other brands in terms of connections, USB, HDMI, compatibility with Wi-Fi Eye-Fi memory cards, etc.

DRAWBACKS

Now, the less cool things about this camera:
    • Few focus points: This is no terrible problem. The focus points for what they serve is to facilitate a faster autofocus experience. I remember that with my old Nikon D60 I had only 3 focus points and had no major complaints of autofocus. 9 focus points are more than enough to reasonably fast autofocus. Yes, I include it as a small inconvenience because many SLRs currently offer 20, 30 or more focus points. Most of these cameras are, on the other hand, much more expensive than the Canon 650D, that is, each one there with its economic capabilities.
  • Small sensor: The sensor of the Canon 650D is correct in terms of size, nothing to reproach. What is certain is that, comparing it with that of other SLRs such as the Nikon D5200, for example, it is a bit damaged. Nothing serious, a matter of a few millimeters apart.

WHAT REALLY MATTERS

It is the photos that a photographer can take with the camera that really matters. Not the megapixels, nor the ISO value, nor the video recording in Full HD 1080p. The photos matter. The results. Here is a sample of photos taken by other photographers using the Canon 650D.
