Getting to know the cameras

The problem of choosing a camera from the budget price segment is always especially acute for beginners trying to understand the variety of models, characteristics and prices. Which Canon camera to choose? Save and buy a DSLR cheaper, only with the most necessary set of functions? Or choose the best option for the price / quality ratio? Or maybe pay a little extra and take a camera that meets all the requirements of a modern photographer? In any case, the choice is yours. We will help you understand the intricacies and make the right choice when buying a Canon camera.

As we can see from the table, the simplest model in this team is the Canon EOS 4000D , the two middle ones are the Canon EOS 1300D and Canon EOS 2000D , and the most advanced is the Canon EOS 200D . In the Canon DSLR line, the models with the lowest index have always had higher specifications, and here it is obvious. But why, then, does the Canon EOS 2000D have an image sensor with a resolution of 24 megapixels, and the Canon EOS 1300D has only 18 megapixels? Let's try to figure out how to get to know the cameras.
From left to right: Canon EOS 4000D, EOS 1300D, EOS 2000D, EOS 200D
Let's first see what unites them? The image sensors on which color reproduction and image quality depend on, these models have the same format (APS-C), and they are relatively large - 22.3 × 14.9 mm. In our case, the sensors differ in resolution - 18 or 24 megapixels. In all models, they are relatively new, except for the Canon EOS 4000D. We see a similar sensor in Canon DSLRs for many years. How much he differs from his brothers and whether he differs in general in the picture, we will still evaluate. Sensors of the same format are installed in most amateur and even semi-professional DSLRs of recent times. They are usually capable of delivering high-quality images when shooting in poor lighting conditions and effectively blurring the background when shooting close-ups of objects.

All cameras have an optical viewfinder, which gives an advantage when shooting in bright sunshine and in focusing speed compared to shooting with sight on the display. In addition, unlike electronic viewfinders, it does not consume battery power, which has a positive effect on battery life. The only difference between the Canon EOS 4000D viewfinder is that it does not have smooth diopter correction (fixed -1.0 diopters), and people with imperfect vision can be uncomfortable when shooting without glasses. True, you can look for a replacement E-series diopter adjustment lens with the desired characteristic.

Separately, it is worth mentioning the common AF system for all cameras through the viewfinder. It includes 9 phase autofocus points that can focus on anything. Each of the 9 points can be selected manually, thereby ensuring high accuracy of focusing on the subject of interest that interests you, and not the camera's automation. The central sensor is cross-type, which provides increased focus accuracy. Also, all cameras are equipped with a Wi-Fi module for remote control of the camera and transfer of captured images to mobile devices using the free Camera Connect application (for iOS and Android). Now I’ll tell you more about the features of each of the cameras.

Canon EOS 4000D

Everything in this model, starting with technical stuffing and ending with a menu with hints and creative modes, tells us that this is the youngest model in the line and is intended for those who are just starting to get acquainted with the photo and want to start taking cool pictures as quickly as possible with minimal immersion into the technical details. The most important features of the Canon EOS 4000D:
  • relatively old 18-megapixel image sensor;
  • 2.7-inch built-in LCD screen with a low resolution of 230 thousand pixels;
  • the presence of only a Wi-Fi module for transferring pictures to a smartphone and remote control of the camera;
  • optical viewfinder without diopter adjustment (see above);
  • built-in guide-assistant for camera functions.
Canon EOS 4000D is the minimum set of the most necessary for the first steps in the photo.

Canon EOS 1300D and Canon EOS 2000D

Two twin brothers. Not only are these cameras similar to each other, they are also not much different from the Canon EOS 4000D. I constantly confused them during the preparation of the review. I was afraid not to shoot any frame on both cameras. Only the nameplate with the model name came to the rescue. The differences compared to the Canon EOS 4000D are almost cosmetic in nature. Key features of the Canon EOS 1300D and Canon EOS 2000D:
  • more modern image sensors: 18 megapixels in the Canon EOS 1300D and 24.1 megapixels in the Canon EOS 2000D;
  • LCD screen with a diagonal of 3 inches (7.5 cm) and a resolution of 920 thousand pixels;
  • diopter correction viewfinder;
  • in addition to Wi-Fi, there is an NFC module for quickly establishing a connection with Android devices;
  • an automatic flash that rises and fires itself in poor lighting conditions.
Differences in the image displayed by the Canon EOS 1300D and Canon EOS 2000D sensors little later.

Canon EOS 200D

As for the Canon EOS 200D , this is not the junior level, but rather the middle class, which got all the best from older cameras. Features and advantages of the Canon EOS 200D:
  • Dual Pixel CMOS AF technology for fast and accurate focusing on the LCD screen (49 AF points);
  • 3-inch rotary touch screen with a resolution of 1040 thousand points sRGB;
  • built-in EOS sensor cleaning system;
  • more powerful modern DIGIC 7 processor;
  • burst shooting up to 5 frames / s;
  • Full HD video recording at 60 frames / s;
  • Wi-Fi, NFC, Bluetooth modules.
But the most important thing is that the Canon EOS 200D stands out from its budget counterparts in terms of accuracy and speed of shooting control: Dual Pixel CMOS AF technology and a rotary touch screen provide a completely different interaction between the photographer and the camera, since instant refocusing and even shooting with one touch of the LCD screen. The entry-level DSLR is already a little like, is not it?
