Color swap in Photoshop

It often happens like this: found the right picture, but the color is not the same; or just wanted to diversify the familiar. How to replace the color in Photoshop with another? The question is justified, because in Photoshop you can replace the color in several ways. Much depends on the dispersion of a particular hue throughout the image. The less often the replaced color will be found in other parts of the image, the easier the color replacement in Photoshop.

And now let’s look at several ways and see how to replace one color with another in Photoshop.

The first method is the easiest and fastest. But the object of repainting should not be too complicated. For example, take a photo of lime on a table. The background is almost uniform, green is present only on lime. The fruit is round, repainting will not be difficult.

Open the image in Photoshop and unpin the layer by right-clicking on the image of the lock.

Above the photo layer, create a new transparent layer ( Shift + Ctrl + N ). Call the Brush tool ( B key ). It’s better to take a hard brush. On the control panel, we call the properties of the brush and select hard, with clear edges of the stroke.

Choose the color of the brush to which we want to repaint the lime. Take blue for example. The palette is located on the toolbar below. Called by double-clicking on the icon. By moving the sliders on the spectrum, you can select a color range. We select a color tone by moving a white ring in a square window, where the tone changes from white to black.

We set ourselves on a transparent layer, select the brush size with the b keys – increase, or X – decrease and paint over our lime.

Now change the blending mode of the layer from “Normal” / Normal to “Hue” / Hue . You can do this on the palette of layers. Thus, lime will change color.

It remains only to save the image. If desired, you can paint in different colors each slice.

If you hold down the Ctrl key and, moving the cursor to the layer icon, click once, the fill zone is highlighted. Now, without removing the selection, you can change the color of the brush and select other colors. You do not need to paint over again. After selecting a color, you can press the key combination Alt + Delete . So the selected area will be filled with a new color.

In the following example, we will consider how to replace color in Photoshop more efficiently. This method may take a little longer, but the result is worth it.

How to replace one color with another in Photoshop, if shades of the changing color are often found in the picture

Let’s say you need to change the lip color of the model. Red, pink and shades of these colors are present in skin color. Changing the color of the lips, you need to leave the skin color unchanged.

Open the image in photoshop. Create an adjustment layer “Hue / Saturation” / Hue / Saturation . The list of adjustment layers can be expanded on the layer palette below.

In the adjustment layer settings window, select the “Red” color channel, click on the Eyedropper Tool , then make one click on the lips of the model. So we will determine the color that we will change.

Movable brackets appear at the bottom of the gradient. With their help, you can make a range of a given color wider or narrower. When you move the “Color Tone” / Hue checker, the selected lip shade will change throughout the spectrum, depending on where you take the checker. In this case, the shade of red will change throughout the image.

After selecting to change the color, close the editing window of the adjustment layer, are in for a mask of the adjustment layer (a white square), and press the Ctrl + I of . The mask is inverted to black, and all our changes will be visually lost.

When all the areas where the color had to be changed are worked out, you can save the image ( Shift + Ctrl + S ). If you missed in some area, you can cancel the action Alt + Ctrl + Z or paint all the misses with a black brush on the mask of the adjustment layer. This method will more accurately help you choose a new color, and the work will look more accurate.
