Does it happen to you that you frequently run out of battery on your mobile, laptop, or camera? If so, you can't miss this.
In this article I am going to reveal what is, for me on a personal level, the best external battery on the market at the moment. I am going to tell you about my personal experience with this type of accessory, and I am even going to give you clues regarding the characteristics that you have to pay attention to when buying one.
This article is full of very useful information and data, so sit back and take notes.
FIRST OF ALL, WHAT DO YOU WANT AN EXTERNAL BATTERY FOR?
Before leaving you my personal recommendation, it is important that you ask yourself this: what do you want a battery for? What kind of use are you going to give it? What kind of devices do you need to charge with one of these devices?
This question is key to finding the right external battery.
A person who needs an external battery is not the sameto charge the mobile occasionally, than a person who will need to charge different electronic devices that consume many watts.
WHAT IS THE BEST EXTERNAL BATTERY?
Currently the Bluetti Poweroak EB55 is possibly one of the best products that we can find on the market.
It comes equipped with endless features that make it an ideal option for many.
Keep in mind that I am a user who combines personal needs (charging the mobile, laptop, tablet, etc.) with photographer needs (camera charges, LED lights, material, etc.).
Before going into the analysis of why I think the Bluetti Poweroak EB55 is a highly recommended option, I would first like to explain the aspects that I usually pay attention to when deciding to buy one of these accessories.
BEST POWER BANKS: KEY POINTS TO CONSIDER
1. Size and weight: there are models that weigh the same as a mobile phone, and there are those that weigh several kilos. There are very tiny ones, and there are exaggeratedly large ones.
It is important that you pay attention to this aspect because, for example, if you usually move around by car or motorcycle, you may not mind that the battery is a bit large or heavy if in return you are going to obtain huge amounts of energy each time.
If, on the other hand, you plan to carry the battery with you, in a backpack, bag, or something like that, on an almost daily basis, you will want to buy one that is as small as possible.
2. Capacity and duration: depending on the type of device you want to power, you will be interested in a battery with a greater or lesser capacity. If it is only for the mobile, any portable charger can practically serve you.
If what you are looking for is an external battery that allows you to charge your mobile repeatedly on a single charge, your laptop, and perhaps some other device that you have lying around, then the ideal would be to find a rather large external battery.
Question: How many mAh does an external battery have to have ?
Answer: The ideal is to have an external battery with an output capacity of not less than 10,000 mAh. Because that way you make sure you have enough energy for a good while.
Question: How many charges are 10,000 mAh
Answer: 10,000 mAh would be equivalent to about 3 to 4 charges of a mobile like iPhone 12, approximately.
Question: Which external battery lasts the longest?
Answer: The Bluetti Poweroak EB55 has a capacity of 537Wh, and is one of the longest lasting external batteries you can find right now.
3. Charging speed: here we refer to the speed at which the battery is able to supply power to the device. Some batteries that offer fast and normal charging. They are obviously more expensive. The cheapest ones usually offer a more normal charging speed, let's say slower.
4. Connections or output ports: this point is key. An average external battery usually offers a USB connection. This means that it is useful for charging mobile phones, wireless mice, and any device that is charged via USB, but if we want to supply charge or power to devices that do not have a USB connection, it is useless.
5. Wireless charging: and speaking of connections, not all external batteries include it, but some, usually those of a higher range, also offer the possibility of charging the mobile via wireless charging. You place the mobile on top and you forget about cables.
6. Recharging method (ports of entry): by dint of charging our devices with the external battery, this in turn loses charge over time and there comes a time when we need to recharge it.
Most portable batteries are charged via USB with a power cable that goes to the wall, but some, the most advanced, offer alternative charging methods as I am going to show you in a moment.
MY RECOMMENDATION AS A USER (PERSONAL EXPERIENCE)
The people I have in my close social circle know me and know that I generally have a very "foreseeing" profile. I like to drive with the tank above half ?, carry my phone with the battery charged as much as possible and, whenever I can, I carry my external battery with me as if it were my ID.
Throughout many years I have had the opportunity to test many types of portable chargers, of all types, sizes and price ranges. Almost all of them had some kind of deficiency.
A few months ago I got hold of the Poweroak EB55, a very advanced external battery concept that, at least in my case, meets all my requirements as a photographer and gadget user, and does so with an A+.
WHAT DO I LIKE ABOUT THE POWEROAK EB55?
Let me start with the drawbacks. The Poweroak EB55 has aspects that I don't care about but that might annoy some users.
Size and weight: It is one of the largest and heaviest external batteries you can find. This is more than made up for by other aspects that I am going to explain below, but right from the start, I can tell you in advance that it is not the ideal battery to carry in your backpack on your way to work or uni every day.
Its charger makes noise: we are talking about an external battery with such a beastly capacity and power that, to recharge it, it comes with its own cable which has a built-in fan. I understand that it is a system designed like this, deliberately, to allow us a super fast recharging speed as well as safety when recharging the battery, thus avoiding overheating.
In any case, you should know that the charging cable has a small internal fan that makes a very faint noise, almost imperceptible, but it's there. If you are very picky about noise, you may want to consider this aspect before making the decision.
Outside of these two points, I don't see more than advantages to this battery. Tell a few below:
Capacity and duration: the EB55 is one of the external batteries that offers the greatest capacity and duration of charge. This brand makes different models but, this one in particular, can store up to 537 Wh (watt-hours).
This allows you to charge not only your mobile phone but almost any device you have lying around: computer, tablet, headphones to listen to music and, in short, any device that requires recharging. And you can recharge them over and over again with the same charge.
Load speed (output): its load speed is also excellent. This model allows normal charging and fast charging (depending on the charging features of the device that receives the charge, of course).
Output connections: in this case we find a bunch of output connections. We have 4 normal USB outlets (called USB-A), 1 100W USB-C outlet or port, 1 120W cigarette lighter outlet, 2 5521 type connector outlets, and… hold on, 2 outlets with normal wall plug, of those we use every day to connect the TV, the refrigerator or the microwave.
This is fantastic because, in addition to allowing us to charge our mobile phones, cameras or laptops, this external battery allows us to connect ordinary household appliances such as a television, microwave, or whatever we want, and keep them running for several hours.
Wireless charging: In addition to the output connections mentioned in the previous point, this model also offers output wireless charging. That is, you place the mobile on top and it charges it, also with fast charging (at the speed that the mobile supports).
Connection or input ports: most external batteries are charged by connecting them via USB to the computer or a network adapter. The EB55 offers 2 alternative ways to charge it: by plugging it into the mains, in a regular wall socket as an input port, or… with solar power!
Effectively, it works like a solar charger. Because this model can be connected to portable solar panels that allow the battery to be recharged in a matter of approximately 3 hours.
Extras: the battery also comes with an on/off button, a built-in flashlight that provides plenty of light, and a handle to pick up the battery and carry it around.
Also, at the security level, the battery is equipped with several protection mechanisms against overheating, overvoltage, etc.
This combination of features makes the Poweroak EB55 an ideal external battery for:
- Users who need to charge devices frequently.
- Professional users who work outdoors and who are far from a network connection (photographers when charging cameras, computers, video cameras, drones or supplying power to LED lights, lighting bulbs, etc.).
- People who travel frequently.
- Regular camping users.
CONCLUSION
These days, here in Europe there is talk of the possibility of a blackout due to power cuts. As remote as this probability is, having a portable charger with a power like this would make a blackout of this type a tad more bearable.
Not only because of the number of connections it has, to connect whatever we want to it, but above all because of the recharging methods it has, especially the solar panels that connect to it.
Blackout jokes aside, I'm not saying the EB55 is an ideal battery for everyone. If you are looking for something tiny, you should look for other alternatives ( here are a few), but if what you need are infinite amounts of energy for your electronic devices, if you cannot afford to run out of battery in your camera, your drone, your laptop or your mobile, then this is undoubtedly one of the best options you can choose.
Also, if when you run out of battery, you usually need a quick charge, without a doubt this portable charger is a not inconsiderable alternative.
At this point, leave me in the comments below your opinion about this external battery. Would you like to have it in the car and have energy always at hand? Or, due to its size, would you prefer a smaller option with much less capacity?
