IS IT INSTAGRAM PHOTOGRAPHY?

IS IT INSTAGRAM PHOTOGRAPHY?

Although it doesn't fascinate me, it doesn't lose me or drive me crazy like melted cheese does, I do believe that Instagramit's photography. I am not the one to define what should be considered photography and what is not, but many people have acknowledged their absolute rejection of Instagram photos being called Photography.

When I hear these kinds of statements, I try to be a bit rational and look for arguments to defend Instagrammers from these attacks. And although I find more than one reason to believe that Instragam is full-fledged Photography, after a while I fall into arguments from the opposite side, reasons for which I would understand why they would not want to be included in the group of photographers. There really are arguments for both sides. I need your help to settle this debate.

DO YOU THINK THAT THE PHOTOS THAT ARE UPLOADED TO INSTAGRAM ARE PHOTOGRAPHY?

I would say yes, after all, photography has evolved throughout history, and it will continue to do so. A conservative and too purist mentality will not stop the inertia of evolution. Tomorrow Man will be able to take photos without touching the shutter, simply through Google Glass type glasses. Everything evolves, for those who accept it and adapt to it or at least respect it from a distance, great. Those who resist change will not hesitate long.

Instagram is Photography because, like all photos, yours contain messages and stories, those of your users. From the moment you see an Instagram photo and feel something: joy, sadness, nostalgia, compassion, envy, boredom, or any other feeling or emotion, you are accepting that what you see is a photograph, as vivid as any traditional photograph.

But wait… Photography was not a simple graphic that made you laugh or cry. But it was much more than that. It is an art and a technique, it is the sentimental relationship that the photographer has with his camera, it is the pleasure of adjusting the camera, by hand, deciding which lens to mount, exploring manual mode, feeling challenged by the lack of light and end up dominating it Photography is the pleasure of looking at the world through a tiny optical viewfinder and not a digital screen made of pixels. Photography is a long and pleasant learning journey that makes you grow first as a person and then as a photographer, and not a series of cold and anonymous automatic filters. Real photography consists of managing the aperture of the diaphragm, the shutter speed, the focal length, the focus, and a long list of little things, to catch the light and present it to the world in the form of a photo. A personal creation. handmade. Is magic. Is not the same.

What do you think? On which side of the debate do you position yourself? Do you think Instagram is Photography? I would like to collect different opinions and enrich the debate.

By the way, does anyone else love melted cheese? ?
