Today I bring you a camera that I know will not leave you indifferent. It may not be your ideal camera, it may not be made for you, but I am sure that it will leave you speechless and that, if you are from long distances, you will fall in love. This is Nikon 's new Coolpix P1000 , a bridge camera that allows you to photograph as far away as you would ever have imagined. (If you're looking for bridge cameras, our top recommendations are at the link.)
DIRECTED TO…
Lovers of long distances. If you are one of those who always falls short of the zoom, of those who always yearn for more focal length, of those who look at the sky with desire, adore wildlife and/or bugs, or hide behind the zoom to capture the scenes for her shyness, this is your camera.
If you are looking for a very advanced compact, that offers you much more, with a better sensor, with a bright lens for short distances and with a zoom to make you faint, and on top of that it does macro, this is your camera.
Ideal for paparazzi, detectives and lovers of bird photography .
IT'S NOT FOR YOU…
If every pixel counts. If the sharpness of the image weighs on you above all else, if you need it for professional work in which the image quality is impeccable.
Nor is it for you if you are short distances; you especially like portraits or close-up photos; you love to change lenses or you are one of those who usually take photos in dark environments or sheltered from night, unless what you need is telescope vision to capture the moon or the stars (or to infinity and beyond ? ).

P900 VS. P1000. COMPARISON WITH ITS PREDECESSOR
If you want to know if it is worth paying the difference between its predecessor and this one, I will tell you what are the main improvements of the new P1000:
- Shoot RAW
- Focal distance up to 3000mm (its predecessor up to 2000mm)
- 125x optical zoom compared to 83x of the previous one
- Screen 3.2″ (front 3.0″)
- Possibility of incorporating external flash
- Microphone input for videos
DRAWBACKS
Compared to its predecessor, it has shorter battery life, weighs significantly more, and is somewhat larger, although the latter favors many users ergonomically.
The image quality it offers is at the same level as other compact ones. Decent but not flawless. And the brightness of the lens drops a lot (from f/2.8 to f/8) when shooting at maximum zoom. You need a lot of light or a tripod to shoot at slower speeds.
It's not exactly a pocket camera either ;).
THE BEST
Without a doubt, the best thing about this camera is its versatility, since you can photograph from macro to the details of the moon. You have a wide and a super telephoto in the same lens. Also the possibility of shooting in RAW or its stabilizer, which allows you to shoot handheld with fairly long focal lengths.

CONCLUSIONS
Don't expect SLR quality, but if you want SLR quality with this zoom, you'd need a lifetime mortgage. That, a professional who lives from those photos, can do it because it's an investment, but if you're an amateur, you don't need that expensive equipment. This camera is your best option, because the quality, without being superior, is very decent.
If yours is astrophotography as a hobby, you like to play paparazzi , wildlife photography, birds or anything you can't physically get close to but want to do with your lens, this is your camera. Even to do macro from afar, as you hear it, sorry, as you read it ;). And if you're a detective, I won't even tell you. You would not imagine a more suitable tool for your profession.
It is certainly a camera cucumber, there is no denying that its zoom possibilities and its versatility are difficult to match. You won't find another compact, bridge or EVIL camera that even comes close. And to equate it with an SLR in terms of zoom, well, I've already told you. Whether it's for you or not, why has it left you with your mouth open? We are closer to the stars every day. What is amazing?
