NIKON D7100 PERSONAL ASSESSMENT

NIKON D7100 PERSONAL ASSESSMENT

If you are looking for an SLR camera, you are not a professional photographer, but you are an amateur user looking for advanced features, a resistant, powerful camera, and almost professional features, don't waste time. You need a Nikon D7100 .

THE IDEAL USER OF A NIKON D7100 SLR

The ideal user of this camera is that amateur photographer who knows that a 350 Euro SLR is not enough for him, he is a user who wants to experiment with photographic situations that are a little "borderline" having the support of a machine that responds quickly, which is robust, that can withstand rain, dust and whatever they throw at it, a camera that focuses quickly, that "sees" in the dark, a camera whose battery lasts for days and days of photos without having to recharge. A beast camera.
If you rush me, a photographer taking his first steps in the world of paid reports, what is called a professional photographer, might also want to start with a camera like the succulent D7100. It will respond perfectly to his needs.

ADVANTAGES OF THE NIKON D7100

Beyond the technical characteristics you can find here, let's see what makes this camera worthy of such praise:

    • Perfect handling of ISO noise: In digital SLR photography, when you have to photograph in semi-dark environments, there are times when you have no choice but to raise the ISO value of your camera. This normally results in more light, which is fine, but also in a typical noise that appears in the photo in the form of tiny grains, sometimes like this green, that spoil the dark parts of the photo. With the Nikon D7100 it will be difficult for you to run into this problem. The camera allows you to reach very high ISO values, with absolute peace of mind and carefree, since up to an ISO of 1,200 in principle you will not have appreciable noise in the photo. A delight.
    • 51 Focus Points: In 2009 the Nikon D60 was still my only SLR. With it I was more than satisfied and it only had 3 focus points. Imagine now being able to work with 51 focus points. It's legendary......dario (if you're not addicted to TV series, forget it). 51 focus points help you pinpoint the camera exactly where you want focus to occur. I'm currently working with a Nikon D7000, which only has 39 focus points, and it's really noticeable.
    • Long battery life: You can shoot up to 950 photos with the camera and the battery will last you without problems. Very practical when you go on a weekend trip and you don't have space for the charger. To hell with the charger. You can go on a trip with a well-charged battery, period, having the peace of mind that it will last you a long time.
    • 2 memory card slots: Also around 2009 I almost gave up when, on my last night of sightseeing in Berlin, I discovered that the memory card with the photos of the entire trip had become useless. With the Nikon D7100 you don't have this problem: thanks to its double memory card slot you can insert 2 cards, and configure it so that slot 1 records photos and slot 2 automatically backs up slot 1. What is spoiling your main memory card? Fuck it ? You have backup.
    • Supersonic 1/8000 Shutter Speed: Basic SLRs shoot you at a shutter speed of typically 1/4000 second, which is more than enough to freeze the action. The Nikon D71000 just doubles it. Take a second, divide it by 8,000, and keep a fraction of the 8,000. Total time freeze.
  • Very generous in buttons: This for me is almost the star feature. You will think "that it has many buttons is not an advantage but quite the opposite, it will leave me stunned" . Relax, not at all. The enormous number of buttons and controls that the D7100 offers allow quick access in less than a second to tons of functions and options that, otherwise, you would have to search through the menu every two for three. There is a dedicated button for almost every control or function. Believe me, this is something that when you try it you can't live without it.

DISADVANTAGES OF THE NIKON D7100

There is no perfect camera. There had to be something wrong with the Nikon D7100. If I have to be completely honest with you, I have to touch this part too ?
Don't worry, nothing serious, but the camera is big, huge, and there are people who are annoyed by this. Compared to a Canon 1100D or a Nikon D3200, the latter two look almost like a bridge or compact camera. The D7100 is bulky, doesn't go unnoticed, and weighs an egg in a backpack. It doesn't bother me but it's supposed to be an inconvenience.
Another drawback is that it doesn't have the novelties and fancy things that other cameras, even lower-end ones, have: it doesn't automatically take panoramic photos, it doesn't take 3D photos or anything like that. If that type of photography interests you, the D7100 is not your camera.
The screen does not rotate: Cheaper cameras like the Nikon D5100 or D5200 have a rotating screen, something very useful for taking self-portraits.

PHOTO SAMPLES

Here is a small sample of photos taken with the Nikon D7100 . I have tried to combine natural photos with other processed ones, so you can see all the potential it offers.

PRICE

The price of the Nikon D7100 is just over 1,000 Euros on Amazon, 18-105mm lens included. I think it is a more than reasonable price for such "exquisite" features.
