First meeting
Sony, perhaps more often than any other manufacturers, pleases photographers with various interesting innovations. Recently, the company made another small revolution in photography, introducing a new system consisting of several full-frame mirrorless cameras and specially designed optics for them. Photographers have already managed to get to know them and appreciate the Sony A7R multi-megapixel camera and the Sony A7 fast “reportage” camera. Get price Sony A7S However, not only photographers, but also videographers, professionals who are looking for a convenient and functional tool not only for taking pictures, but also for recording videos, show a well-deserved interest in Sony's new products. And of course, they make the highest demands on the quality of the resulting photos and videos.ILCE-7S Installations: ISO 640, F4, 1/60 s, 35.0 mm equiv.Download RAW
It was the needs of both photographers and videographers that Sony engineers tried to satisfy in the new Sony A7S camera .
The heart of the novelty is the new full-frame 12-megapixel Exmor CMOS sensor, which promises a breakthrough in the field of photosensitivity and in the possibilities of shooting in low light. The relatively small number of megapixels allowed engineers to create a matrix with very low digital noise rates. The range of photosensitivity of the novelty is 50-409600 ISO units. Fantastic values, even compared to cameras Sony A7 and A7R, in which the maximum light sensitivity is "only" ISO 25600.
The “brain” of the camera was the high-performance Bionz X processor, familiar to users from the A7 and A7R cameras. It allows you to quickly save photos with a resolution of up to 4240x2832 in RAW or JPEG format and copes with noise reduction.
In addition to working at very high ISOs, the main advantage of the new camera is the ability to record video in 4K format, but more on that later. We all know that the satellite of high ISO values, which flaunts the new product, is digital noise, which greatly degrades the quality of images. How the new product will show itself in practice - we'll see a little later, but for now, let's start from the very beginning: consider the appearance of the Sony A7S and the delivery set.
In the box with the Sony A7S, you will find not one battery, but two. Also added to the kit and charger. Those who already had experience dealing with Sony full-frame mirrorless cameras know that you can charge the battery directly in the camera, via the microUSB port. Moreover, this can be done from any USB port: for example, through a laptop. It is very convenient when traveling and traveling - you don’t have to carry the charger with you as before. Enough of just one small and public USB cable.
However, the charger will not be superfluous either. It is useful when you need to quickly charge all the batteries. One can be charged in the charger, the other in the camera. Again, videographers will appreciate this approach, because when shooting a video, the batteries run out quickly, and you have to charge them often and often, sometimes at the same time as shooting. The presence of two batteries in the kit is apparently also due to the “Achilles heel” of modern mirrorless cameras - the relatively short battery life of the camera compared to DSLRs. The manufacturer claims that the A7S is capable of making up to 380 frames on a single charge.
