Surely when a landscape comes to mind it assaults you in color, with the green of the meadows, the blue of the sea or the fiery clouds of a spectacular sunset. Today we challenge you to break that spear and think and capture landscapes in black and white.

HOW DOES IT WORK? (REMINDER)
Every week I will propose a new challenge , it is a topic that you will have to capture in a photograph and upload it to the Facebook page of the blog, putting in the description the keyword that I will indicate for each topic. The themes will be varied, from portraits to Macro photography, going through landscapes, black and white photography, or babies. The topics will be proposed on Saturdays, so that you have the whole weekend to work on them. You will have one week to upload your photograph (one photo per participant), until Friday of the following week. On Friday or Saturday I will update the article with the photo that has captivated me the most and I will propose a new topic, and so…
WEEKLY CHALLENGE 109: LANDSCAPE IN BLACK AND WHITE
Maybe this is quite a challenge for you, but that's what challenges are for, to challenge yourself and achieve new things, otherwise, if you limit yourself to always capturing the same or always using the same techniques, you can end up getting bored of this wonderful hobby and that's the last thing we want to happen.
In our How to Capture Stunning Landscapes post you will find a specific article on black and white landscapes, as well as the Complete Guide to Black and White Photography , although the blog also has tips for better black and white photography and 11 simple tips for stunning landscape photography that can help you. It will not be for lack of information, right? ?
My advice is that you take great care of the composition, that you do not stay only with the middle tones of the gray scale, and that you do not give prominence to clear skies. A minimalist landscape, with textures, in long exposure or with a sky full of clouds can be perfect candidates to capture them in black and white. Are you looking for them?
As usual, to participate in this week's challenge upload your photo to the Facebook wallfrom the Photographer's Blog: In the photo description please mention the keyword “Black and White Landscape Challenge” followed by a title of your choice.
ALTERNATIVE MEANS TO PARTICIPATE
For those of you who are not from Facebook, I have enabled new social networks to participate.
Flickr: Accessing the Photographer's Blog Group Wall and uploading the photo directly. Give your photo a title and be sure to mention “Black and White Landscape Challenge” in it.
Twitter: uploading the photo directly to Twitter with the hashtag #RetoPaisajeEnBlancoYNegroBdF
Happy photography.
UPDATE
The challenge of that week has served to confirm that landscapes do not necessarily have to be in color, here we have a good example of it:
The featured photo this week is that of Berto Ribas, “Embarcadero en Cala d´Hort”. This photograph is a good example of how you can break the photographic rules and still get a great result. He has left the horizon line right in the middle, defying the famous law of the horizon. But in this case both the sea and the sky are of great interest. The author has achieved a magnificent composition by placing the line in the center because he has managed to increase the depth of the image. The clouds in the sky are very attractive and do not detract from the sea due to the elements that have been included in the frame. The rocks and the jetty are a resource that he has used very well to guide our gaze. He has also achieved a beautiful silky effect for the sea with a very careful long exposure. I like the soft contrast that enhances the nostalgic soul of this image, the nostalgia of a time of splendor for this pier that has now been abandoned, at the mercy of pirates, dream thieves and photography lovers. Berto, congratulations for this fantastic image!
