WEEKLY CHALLENGE 52: SHADOWS

WEEKLY CHALLENGE 52: SHADOWS

Welcome to the 52nd edition of the Weekly Challenge. In this week's I invite you to put your imagination and creativity to the test. You dare?

HOW DOES IT WORK? (REMINDER)

Every week I will propose a new challenge, it is a topic that you will have to capture in a photograph and upload it to the Facebook page of the blog by putting in the description the keyword that I will indicate for each topic. The themes will be varied, from portraits to Macro photography, going through landscapes, black and white photography, or babies. The topics will be proposed on Saturdays, so that you have the whole weekend to work on them. You will have one week to upload your photograph (one photo per participant), until Friday of the following week. On Friday or Saturday I will update the article with the photo that has captivated me the most and I will propose a new topic, and so…

WEEKLY CHALLENGE 52: SHADOWS

When we think of photographing something, we look for a person, object, landscape, apple, baby. The thing we want to represent itself. We rarely stop to photograph the shadow of things . And it is that photographing shadows can be a very subtle as well as creative way of representing a reality, invoking a feeling or transmitting an emotion.

In weekly challenge 52, the exercise that I propose to you consists of portraying a shadow. You have complete freedom to play with the subject as you please as well as with the technique, the essential requirement is that the photograph has a significant element of "shadow". It can be represented as the main subject, center of attention, or even as an accessory element, but it must have a noticeable presence within the frame. We are looking for a photograph that transmits something, that does not leave you indifferent, and in which the viewer stops for a moment appreciating the aesthetics of the shadow.

So by boat you may soon go blank. I suggest you take a look at some examples on Pinterest(another one here) to get some inspiration.

Remember, we look for shadows. Silhouettes are not worth (for that we already had a dedicated challenge previously).

As usual, to participate in this week's challenge upload your photo to the Facebook wall of the Photographer's Blog:  In the description of the photo please mention the keyword “Shadow Challenge” followed by a title of your choice.

ALTERNATIVE MEANS TO PARTICIPATE

For those of you who are not from Facebook, I have enabled new social networks to participate.

  • Flickr: Accessing the Photographer's Blog Group Wall and uploading the photo directly. Give your photo a caption and be sure to mention “Shadow Challenge” in it.
  • Twitter: uploading the photo directly to Twitter with the hashtag #RetoSombraBDF

Happy photography.

UPDATE

Friday is the day I receive my reward, observing the works with which you have participated and enjoying the level that you exhibit. Like every week, here is a sample of the shadow photographs that you have taken throughout this week. Dozens and hundreds of photos, of very good quality and very high level, have been left out of this selection, because I cannot include them all and because it is not a contest either. The weekly selection has the sole purpose of inspiring and giving some healthy envy to those who haven't bothered to take the camera and take a couple of shots ? You already know that the challenge is to enjoy taking photos. I don't know of a bigger reward than that.

The curiosity of the little girl who cast the shadow of her hands on the ground has made this photo, by Alexa, my favorite for this week's challenge. A good photograph is not only a good technique, a photogenic subject, or an idyllic landscape. It is also, and above all , a great story.
Sometimes the biggest stories are led by the smallest human beings.

Congratulations Alex.
