I suppose that by the title you must already know more or less where the shots go. Today's is not a typical article. It is, rather, a reflection out loud: Nikonist, canonist or simply a photographer? A kind of monologue which I hope you will enrich with your comments below.
Many of you know how much I like Nikon . Today I would like to share a little reflection on what we normally take for granted.
HOW WRONG WE ARE...
When it comes to brands, we all have preferences. What we are often not aware of is that these preferences are sometimes irrational, completely unjustified. We think we know the reasons why we like one brand or another, in fact, if someone asked us, we would give them a long list of reasons and arguments. However, on many occasions we are wrong. Behind our preferences, sometimes, there are absurd and crazy reasons, nothing to do with the reasoning we believe. The real motives sometimes range from the predominant preference in our closest circle of friends (wanting to resemble our friends and close people is totally normal social behavior, if most of them use Nikon,
Emotions can us. let's face it
THE FANATICISMS
The fact that we base certain decisions in life on simple impulses, emotions or unfounded criteria is nothing serious. That's how it's worked all my life and hey, nothing ever happened, it's not the end of the world. However, when a personal belief, correctly reasoned or not, begins to turn into fanaticism and obsession, then the matter becomes somewhat complicated.
Absolute and indisputable superiority does not exist. It happens with soccer clubs, with iPhones and Android phones, with peoples and even with religions. It's ridiculous, this reminds me of my days as a kid, when after school I used to argue with my colleagues about who would win a fight between Bruce Lee and Jackie Chan, or between the Power Rangers and some superhero.
With the cameras it was not going to be different. Nikon is not the best camera in the world. Canon is not. Neither did Sony.
None.
ADDING SOME REASON...
Although there is no best camera in the world , don't worry, I have good news: "there is the best camera for you." ?
It's what it's really about. In cameras there is nothing preset.
Each user is a world, with their own needs, habits, preferences, purchasing power, intentions to continue, degree of interest, inheritance of objectives, etc. It is not sensible to say in an arrogant way: «What camera do I recommend? Get a Nikon, obviously they are the best. How can you doubt it? What are you saying!".
These types of expressions that I hear frequently, and before the ones that I bite my tongue for not bothering, are another example of fanaticism and lack of judgment.
If you consider buying a camera, investigate, ask, collect opinions from different people, from users, from sellers, find out, investigate on the Internet, on blogs, look for real reasons. If they tell you that an X camera has better colors, don't just accept it, find out, ask them to show you a photo in which you can appreciate that color difference.
Once you've made a thoughtful and well-informed decision, go ahead. Become a Nikonist, Canonist or Pentaxer, but don't assume it will be for life. First of all, you are a Photographer.
MY LITTLE CONFESSION...
I confess to being a lost Nikonist. Now, I am aware of my irrational love for Nikon, I know that it will have advantages and disadvantages, like all other brands.
I will never discredit a Canon camera, the Sony are not my devotion but it is a simple personal choice, I am capable of recommending a Sony camera to a friend if necessary. I respect all brands and when I recommend a camera or brand I try to do it based on the needs of the user who is going to use it, not based on my own preferences.
I love Nikons but the day they start to fail or a better alternative comes along (from Canon or Pentax for example) I won't have the slightest qualms about getting it.
I hope today's post has brought you something useful. In the next article I will bring you a great tutorial. Something you can do whatever camera you have.
We read each other ?
