LITERARY RECOMMENDATION: INTELLIGENT PHOTOGRAPHY WITH LIGHTROOM 5 (JOSÉ MARÍA MELLADO)

Surely, if you have at any time been interested in a book about Lightroom or photographic edition in general, you already know or ring the name of the well-known José María Mellado . Without going any further, in this blog we have already reviewed it a couple of times with other publications such as High Quality Photography and My best techniques and advice .  This time, I want to introduce you to another of his publications: Smart photography with Lightroom , where you will find everything you need to know about Lightroom not only for editing but also everything related to its configuration.

IDEAL FOR…

Anyone or one who wants to enter the world of Lightroom perfectly. Because Lightroom has the problem of being quite intuitive, which means that, on many occasions, we start to fiddle without it or even with it and without knowing exactly the configuration options, or editing it really has. That is why, if you really want to squeeze all your possibilities for editing and organizing images (one of its strongest points), this book is a must in your photographic journey with Lightroom.

COMPOSITION AND DESIGN OF SMART PHOTOGRAPHY WITH LIGHTROOM 5

The book is organized into 6 different themes, with their corresponding subtopics. Let's see what each one is about.

TOPIC 1: BOOTING

In this topic you will see everything you need to understand Lightroom from the beginning. You will understand how to configure it in the most optimal and step-by-step way, how to organize your files in a practical way , what are the best settings of an initial configuration, how to import and establish a correct workflow for successive imports, you will learn to use the catalog and even watermark and identity plate options.

TOPIC 2: LIBRARY

One of Lightroom's strengths is its library and the way it stores images and their archiving possibilities. In this chapter you will know all the ins and outs of the Library and you will be able to customize your own work environment step by step, create folders, search for files, you will learn to configure the different types of views, to select and place markers to the photos, the magnifying glass, the Quick access to images, to configure two monitors at the same time, to manage smart collections, indicators, filters by metadata and much more.

TOPIC 3: REVEALED

In this third chapter, you will learn everything you need to edit your images. From the initial configuration of the development interface (restore, history, histogram, external editing, etc.) through each and every development setting explained in detail (perspective, contrast, crop, exposure, shadows / highlights, filters, black and white, stain removal, focus, noise reduction and so on).

TOPIC 4: EXPORT

For Mellado, Lightroom is the perfect complement to Photoshop, which is why he dedicates part of this chapter to the best way to finish our images in it. Here you can find the necessary configuration options to make your exports (to Photoshop but also to web, print or other online services), or the different settings necessary for external editing.

TOPIC 5: OTHER MODULES

Although Lightroom's strengths are Library and Reveal, Lightroom also offers us 5 more modules that complete the possibilities of working with our images. Map: If your camera has GPS, you can know exactly the location of each of your photographs. You can group them by place, see the routes you have done, etc. Book: From here you can create your books in Blurb, PDF or JPEG. Projection: This module allows to create presentations on screen. Print: Another of the star modules of Lightroom. From here you can prepare your images to print step by step and with all its possibilities. Web: It allows to generate photo galleries to export to Web page.

TOPIC 6: MORE WOOD!

An extra chapter for advanced users with more specialized topics such as high dynamic range image development, video (playback, development and export), advanced catalog management, metadata editing or keyboard shortcuts.
