Should I join a Photography Organization?

There are lots of moments in life that we want to capture and store for life. Well, having just a memory of those incidents is not necessarily enough. That is so because our memories are quite volatile, and we might end up forgetting. For this purpose, let’s rely on something which was made solely for this purpose. The photography camera. Particularly a DSLR. Some of us have always been interested in opening a photography studio from a very long time, whereas some of us have discovered this passion just a short time ago. But whatever the case is, we all have one common passion. The passion to ‘capture the moment’. And if you are really interested in commercial photography, the first thing you should do is to go and buy a photography camera; in particular, a professional one, like a DSLR. This is so because these types of cameras provide us with various options to test and try out, whereas a regular pick and shoot camera or even a smartphone will have limited access to the camera settings and hence will provide lower quality images as compared to DSLRs. After you have selected your camera, you might be interested in learning how to use it or may already be having some information. But whatever the case may be, even though self-education is the best kind of education, you would probably take a very long time to reach the heights of greatness, or maybe you might even not be able to achieve that goal. Keeping that in mind, below are listed a few reasons as to why you should probably enrol for a professional course:

  1. Guidance and direction: At the start of your wonderful photography career, you might not know a lot of things about this subject and might not even know what to pursue in photography. Therefore, when you join professional photography courses, you will start to understand a lot of things, including your strengths and weaknesses. Meeting so many like-minded people will help renew that vigorous flame of passion for photography in your heart.
  2. Knowledge: Knowledge is never limited, and a person doesn’t stop receiving knowledge until he dies. This being said, being in a class provides you with the extra boost of passion, besides making you understand the subject better. You can always continue to improve yourself and practice by yourself to become better than the others.
  3. Shooting often, learning more: I’m sure we all have had an experience where we were very much interested in something for some time. But a few days later, we found something, which we felt was more interesting to do and hence would have moved on, abandoning the task completely. This could very well happen with your passion for photos and cameras itself. Being in a class, on the other hand, is a very different story altogether. With all the assignments and projects and your aim to beat your friends, you are constantly driven to learn and achieve more. Also, you wouldn’t wind up shutting your camera in the cupboard thinking that you might have found something better because, in a class, you would realize, that photo studio is what you wanted to have, and hence would be happy with your decision.
  4. Assignment: When your teacher provides you with assignments, you would have to understand the task at hand in the first place and figure out the best possible way to complete your assignment. During this process, you would have to do a lot of research and you will realize that your knowledge of photography would have increased a lot more than what you could have achieved alone.
  5. Review: In the class, your teachers who themselves are experts would then review your work and would try to figure out the areas and genres you are good at, thereby helping you find your true potential. After this, the teacher would probably conduct a ‘constructive critique’, a kind of a group discussion where the best pictures shot by each student would be displayed and each student would then speak about how they feel about them. Thus, an amazing analysis is conducted.
  6. Innovative ideas: Since each individual has his own way of thinking and looking at things, you would learn a lot more and would get much better ideas as compared to working alone. A class provides you with a unique way of thinking and presenting your ideas.
So, in conclusion, I would strongly suggest you join professional photography classes because of all the massive advantages you get by just joining the course, but above all, make sure to enjoy yourself and not give up on your passion for any kind of reason or excuse.
