Zenit M and Zenitar 1/35 test

Zenit M and Zenitar 1/35 test

What is Zenit M?

“I also had“ zenith ”, only film…” - I heard this phrase during the week of testing the sensational Zenit M news ten times. What kind of camera it is, why it was created and how to shoot it - we will put all the points over i in our test.

What is Zenit M?

I hasten to immediately disappoint those who think that the Krasnogorsk plant them. S.A. Zvereva (KMZ) decided to repeat the success of their film cameras of the last century. The digital full-frame novelty will be released in a limited edition (500 copies), its cost is about $ 6000.

The shocking price has a clear explanation: Zenit M is not assembled in Krasnogorsk, but in Wetzlar, at the Leica plant. But what is there to hide, this is Leica M (Typ 240), but released in collaboration with KMZ in a unique design and with minor modifications to the element base and built-in software. Here, a patriotic reader may be seriously worried: but why do you need such a “Zenith”? But to draw preliminary conclusions is not worth it. It’s better to look at the lens with which the new camera will be sold. So they do it in Krasnogorsk. This is truly a unique “glass” - Zenitar 1/35.

Just in case, we decipher: focal length 35 mm, aperture f / 1.0. Before us is a completely new development of the plant, which demonstrates the potential of Krasnogorsk optics - the lens opens a series of upcoming fast-fix lenses.

By the way, the quality of serial Zenitar 1/35 is controlled by representatives of Leica. So the bar is set really high. We will pay special attention to the lens.
