First meeting
Recently, on the pages of Prophotos more and more often you can see reviews of mirrorless cameras. The trend is that most amateur photographers, when buying a new (and sometimes the first) camera, are more confidently moving away from the stereotype that only mirrors can give maximum image quality. Of course, there are situations when you cannot do without them. However, this statement refers more likely to professional photographers working in technically complex genres.X-T10 / XF16mmF1.4 R WR Settings: ISO 200, F16, 1/15 s, 24.0 mm equiv.
Today our guest is a hot new product - Fujifilm X-T10. The design of the X-T10 can be described with the words "modern classic." It resembles cameras of the film era, but has been successfully supplemented with new controls. Of course, there are settings that were not in the cameras of the past.
The case of the novelty is made of magnesium alloy, and this greatly affects tactile sensations. It’s nice to touch it, but you won’t find fault with the build quality. At the same time, the metal structure adds X-T10 strength, but does not affect the weight. The mass of the camera with a battery and a memory card is slightly less than 400 grams. Also, the advantages of the T-X10 include compact sizes. Width, height and thickness are 118.4 mm, 82.8 mm and 40.8 mm, respectively. Two color options are available: silver and black.
Special mention deserves the controls of our today's hero. For the most prompt adjustment of the shooting parameters, on the top panel there are not one or two, but three control disks at once.
The rightmost one is responsible for entering exposure compensation. You can change from -3 to +3 EV in increments of ? steps. Next to it is the shutter speed dial. Available values ??range from 1 to 1/4000 s, but the full shutter speed range is much wider: from 60 to 1/32000 s. This is possible when using the electronic shutter mode.
To set intermediate values, there is position T. There are also BULB mode (position B) and automatic shutter speed selection (position A).
If the exposure compensation and exposure disks are quite rightfully inherited from the older brother - the Fujifilm X-T1 model, then the next disk is already something new.
Located on the left side of the upper panel, it serves primarily for the operational selection of the shutter mode and special shooting modes. We will dwell on its functions in detail in the next part of our review.
Of course, in addition to appearance, it is worth saying about the filling of our current subject. An X-Trans CMOS II sensor with a resolution of 16.3 megapixels is used here as a photosensitive element. This is Fujifilm's own development. Its peculiarity lies in the atypical arrangement of colored elements, different from the standard "Bayer" model. It is the X-Trans-sensor that is responsible for the proprietary color rendition, which distinguishes Fujifilm cameras from the total mass.
In addition, the X-T10 matrix was equipped with phase detection pixels, the presence of which should positively affect the speed and accuracy of focusing.
Sighting can be carried out both by the digital viewfinder and by the external display, which is endowed with an inclined design. This feature is useful if the shooting point is very low. The screen size is 3 ”, the resolution is 920,000 pixels, and the aspect ratio is 3: 2.
Returning to the viewfinder, it is worth noting that it is made using OLED technology with a resolution of 2.36 million pixels, and its diagonal is 0.39 ”. For a comfortable sighting of such a size is more than enough, the observed picture looks quite natural. In addition, according to the manufacturer, the response time of the image is a record 0.005 s. So today it is one of the best electronic viewfinders on the camera market.
Nowadays, it’s hard to surprise anyone with a camera with a video function. This kinomania did not bypass our current subject. Among the available shooting modes is Full HD recording with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 and a frequency of 60p, 50p, 30p, 25p and 24p.
Unfortunately, a headphone jack is not provided for the Fujifilm X-T10. But there is a jack for connecting an external microphone. Its diameter is slightly different from the most common 3.5 mm (mini-jack) and is 2.5 mm. However, adapters that solve this problem are easy to find on sale. A complete solution is also offered by Fujifilm. The MIC-ST1 microphone she produces is perfect for the Fujifilm X-T10 without the need for additional accessories.
