If you were a little lost on the subject of filters, those transparent caps that fit on the front of the lens, in today's article I will explain a little the different types of filters that are on the market as well as the utility of each one of them:
- Skylight and UV filters: Its basic task is to protect the objective lens glass from dirt, dust, scratches, etc. Secondary they filter the ultraviolet light and slightly correct the excess of blue color in the photos, but almost unnoticed. As their main purpose is to protect the objective and little else, they usually have a fairly economical cost.
- Effects filters : These are filters that serve to give a certain effect to the photo: for example there is the star filter, the gradient, among others. They serve to achieve effects that otherwise we would have to apply through an editing program like Photoshop for example.
- Polarizing filter: I love it. This is a filter that fulfills two functions: on the one hand it eliminates the unwanted reflections of bright surfaces such as water, crystals, etc., and on the other hand it helps to obtain more intense and more saturated colors. Very useful for example when photographing a landscape, making the sky have a more intense blue color and with greater contrast to the clouds. In the following article you can find more information about polarizing filters .
- Neutral Density Filter, ND: It is a gray filter, composed of chemical materials that help reduce the amount of light entering the chamber without damaging the colors at all. You will only need to use this type of filters if you master the manual mode of your camera and others are in situations where you do not get the right balance between shutter speed and amount of light entering.
- Infrared Filter: It is a filter that allows the entry of only infrared light, which produces some curious pictures. There are people very fond of this photographic discipline.
